New Hampshire congressional candidate Andy Martin says Governor Chris Sununu is the most underrated governor in America. Martin also challenges Republicans to declare if they really want to win in November, or just claim they are “conservative” and lose to the Democrats. Martin ends with a closing appeal for votes today.

In his final letter as a primary candidate to New Hampshire citizens, congressional candidate Andy Martin expresses strong support for Governor Chris Sununu, as well as issuing a challenge to primary voters and the Republican Party. Martin also asks Granite Staters a question: “What if I had not run or congress?” Martin closes with a promise to Make New Hampshire Proud, asking Granite Staters for their vote today.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

This letter is one of New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin’s continuing reports to the citizens of his district

Today Martin offers some positive thoughts about Governor Chris Sununu, asks Republicans what kind of voters they really are, and also asks voters to consider what the primary would have been like if Martin had not run.

(MANCHESTER, NH)(September 11, 2018)

Dear New Hampshire Citizen:

This is my fifteenth and last letter to you from the primary campaign trail. Later today I either become the nominee for congress or a former candidate for this election cycle.

So this is a three-part letter. First, I want to say some very positive things about our Governor, Chris Sununu. Second, I want to challenge you to ask yourself, “what kind of a primary voter am I?” Finally, I want to challenge you with a question: “What if Martin had not run?”

1. Governor Chris Sununu

Being the governor of a very closely divided state is really a challenge. I think Chris Sununu does an outstanding job. Over the past several months I have spoken at events with Chris; I first met him a couple of years ago. I am impressed.

Last Saturday, in a barn where the Seacoast Women were serving chili and there was a constant din of background noise, Chris delivered a profound message to the party faithful. I wish more of you had been there to hear him. Sununu said, “Those of us here are the believers. But what about those voters who are not here? How do we reach them? How do we bring them in?” (I am writing from memory and this is not intended to be a verbatim report.)

Chris realizes that simply preaching to the faithful is not enough. We have to constantly recruit converts to our cause. It is not enough to say “I am a conservative,” and then sit back and wait for the election returns. This is 2018, not 1918. We need to constantly sell our party, sell our ideas, and sell our platform to voters. It is not an easy job.

Very conservative voters will complain, “He’s not conservative enough.” More moderate Republicans may complain, “he’s not liberal enough.” How do you mediate in a party with a broad spectrum of ideas and attitudes?

Sununu does a very good job. He understands that Republicans alone are not enough to ensure victory for Republican candidates. We need outreach, real outreach, constant outreach to people who may not be familiar with our views and values, and who may think Republicans are the demons they are made out to be by liberal media. We need to constantly be changing hearts and minds.

Summing up, Sununu may be the most underrated governor in America. He will win reelection, but it won’t be a landslide. The other party is competitive and will unite behind their candidate. And, I cannot say often enough, we are a closely divided state. Republicans alone cannot carry our candidates to victory. You can be proud of the job Chris Sununu does to keep New Hampshire conservative, and Republican.

2. “What kind of a primary voter am I?”

Are you someone that wants your candidate to be 100% in agreement with you? William F. Buckley once said (not exact words) he wanted to nominate the most conservative candidate who can win. I have not tried to out-conservative my opponents. Andy Sanborn is a very conservative member of the state senate. But he is not very effective, and he could not even persuade a majority of his fellow senators to endorse him (Edwards has state senate endorsements). So just being a conservative is not enough to win in November.

Sanborn keeps saying the First District is a “Republican district.” It is not. It is a very, very competitive district, a real tossup. Trump and others carried the district two years ago because of the wave of new voters Trump brought to Republican candidates. But Trump is not on the ballot this November. Republican winners in the primary have a big challenge ahead of them on September 12th.

Eddie Edwards has tried to match Sanborn on conservative issues, and done a pretty good job. But I am not convinced Edwards has the depth of experience necessary to face the Democrat “killing machine” that is waiting to attack the winner on September 12th.

Me? Am I perfect? Good gracious no. The Democrats will attack me just as viciously as the others. But I have decades of national experience knowing how to fight back. When Adam Sexton misstated my record in the recent debate, I jumped on him. He was dead wrong and I did not hesitate to say so. So, yes, I am probably by far the most conservative candidate who can win.

I am committed to fighting the toxicity in Washington. Disrupting congressional hearings is not “free speech” as some Democrats have said. It is anarchy. And I will condemn the anarchy. But I will also make a special effort to sit down with our opponents. No, my views and values are not for sale, not even for compromise. But I know how to talk to people, how to negotiate. I will also give the “Great Negotiator” a little advice about toning down his Twitter feed.

So are you going to vote for the candidate that said he was “most conservative,” and made you feel good during the primary? Or are you going to vote for me, so we can fight the Democrats and actually win in November? Ask yourself, what kind of a voter are you? I hope you’re someone committed to winning.

Trump was not the most conservative candidate during the Republican primaries. But he was the most conservative candidate who could win. Justice Gorsuch and future Justice Kavanaugh are proof positive that winning counts.

By falsely trying to portray the primary as a “bitter” contest between Sanborn and Edwards the Fake News media in New Hampshire may have sabotaged those candidates and created lasting hostility. I am not at all sure that Edwards voters will vote for Sanborn. Sanborn voters may not support Edwards. Poof. The general election is lost before it even begins. As a first step to uniting the party I have promised that if you nominate me, I will ask Edwards and Sanborn to serve as co-chairman of my campaign in the fall.

One again, I am the conservative who can win.

3. What if Andy Martin had not run for Congress? Or, put another way, think of all the great work he could do for us in Washington

Ask yourself, what if I had not run for congress? You would not have had access to over 1,000 pages of information about Andy Sanborn. Whether you support or oppose Sanborn, you can make an informed decision on primary day. I brought the “Sanborn papers” to light through my work with the Attorney General. The Sanborn matter had been forgotten; the media were ignoring it. Until I negotiated a deal for the release of the state’s records.

Just think of how shocked you would have been in October when the Democrats’ mudslingers unloaded on Sanborn if he had become the candidate. Pretty devastating.

Likewise, you would not know about Eddie Edwards’ $160,000 settlement with the State Liquor Commission. Once again, you can make an informed decision. The Settlement was sitting on the shelf for five (5) years before I asked to have it made public. The media had done nothing to inform you. Just think of what it would have been like if Edwards won the primary, and Democrats unloaded the Settlement on voters just before the election. Pretty difficult.

Concerning the Democrats, I have not defeated Maura Sullivan. But the record shows it was my constant bombardment of Sullivan that finally motivated the “Cowardly Lions” (her opposing candidates) to stand up and start challenging her. The media had made Sullivan sound like a one-woman unbeatable wave. After I had a go at her, she doesn’t seem so invincible any more.

My point: During this primary I have done what a congressman does. I have challenged the conventional wisdom and the established orthodoxy. I have opened up closed records for your review. You don’t have to ask yourself, “Can Martin do the job?” I have been “on the job” since I filed as a candidate, telling you the truth about the process and letting you see the government’s secret files for yourself. All in all a very effective performance. No one had a greater influence on the primary election than me. Just ask my opponents.

Can one man make a difference in Washington? Well, I’ve done a pretty good job of making a difference during the primary. Give me a chance to do the same in congress.

I’ll make New Hampshire proud.

I need your vote today to continue making a difference in our state and in our politics. Please vote. It will make a big difference.

Respectfully,

Andy Martin

Manchester News conference Monday: New Hampshire congressional candidate Andy Martin promises that if he wins the primary he will offer opponents Eddie Edwards and Andy Sanborn positions as co-chairmen of his fall campaign

New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin holds a Manchester news conference today, Monday, to promise that if he wins the primary, his first priority will be party unity. “I will offer Eddie Edwards ad Andy Sanborn continuing roles as co-chairmen of my campaign,” Martin promises. “The incompetent party leadership pursued a policy of self-destruction and split the party in the process. The leadership is incapable of practicing what it preaches. I will make a real gesture, and offer Edwards and Sanborn roles in my fall campaign. I will start the healing process on September 12th. Neither of my opponents can unite the party right now. I can. I am the only candidate that can win in November.”

(Manchester, NH)(September 10, 2018) — Republican congressional candidate Andy Martin holds a news conference today, Monday, to promise that if he wins the primary, he will offer his opponents Eddie Edwards and Andy Sanborn roles as co-chairmen in his campaign.

“On the eve of the primary, the party is split. With all due respect, I am the only congressional candidate that can unite the warring factions on the ‘day after.’ I actually have sympathy for Edwards and Sanborn. They are completely inexperienced candidates at the national level, where campaigns take on a high-pressure, high-voltage environment. By excluding me from full participation in the primary campaign, the party leadership ensured that the other two candidates would declare war on each other. Months ago I predicted what would happen, and it happened.

“My campaign has been premised on a promise to go to Washington and act as a peacemaker. No, I am not going to compromise my principles. But yes, I will act with civility towards those who disagree with me. The healing process has to begin here, now, or the prospects of a Republican going to congress are nil. A party divided against itself cannot win.

“The Edwards ‘camp’ and the Sanborn ‘camp’ will not come together on the ‘day after.’ That is my practical view of the situation. The may attend a ‘unity breakfast’ but that’s the extent of their ‘unity.’

“On the eve of the primary I have said what I am going to say about each of them. There are no attacks today.

“I sincerely do not believe Mr. Sanborn is remotely electable. I could have helped him win; the way forward was obvious. But he chose to adopt a confrontational campaign style and it has doomed his efforts in November. He is obviously tied too closely to Chairman Wayne McDonald, who I call the Joker, and other party leaders.

“Likewise, I would have advised Mr. Edwards to approach his opponent from a slightly different angle. Edwards’ advisers chose their own approach. I do not believe Sanborn voters will be willing to embrace Edwards.

“None of this had to happen. The candidates ourselves have shown we can campaign together with honest differences of opinion. It was the incompetent party leaders, led by the ever-useless McDonald-the-Joker, who insisted that the three campaigns go to war against each other.

“If you have not yet seen the Union Leader/WMUR televised debate, here is a link:

“I believe a fair-minded assessment of my performance is that I am the only candidate who is in ‘sync’ with First District voters. The district voted Republican last time on the strength of Donald Trump’s coattails. This November the GOP candidate will not have a tailwind. He will have a headwind to overcome. This is an evenly-divided district. My campaign of reconciliation and civility is the only way forward.

“I will have a closing message this evening in which I explain why I feel so strongly about my approach. Some have misinterpreted my approach as someone wanting to go ‘half-way’ with Democrats. That is not the case. But I want to go all the way with civility and decorum. The Democratic program of hatred and hostility towards President Trump is undermining America without offering that party any measurable benefit. The misbehavior at the hearings involving Judge Kavanaugh is a disgrace. Anarchy is not ‘free speech.’ Anarchy is antithetical to free speech.

“I worked on Capitol Hill when people actually spoke to each other, and laughed with each other, and teased each other over their policy differences. Republicans were still Republicans and Democrats were still Democrats, but civility made us a stronger nation. We had one united foreign policy, not a foreign policy for every senator who thought he should be president.

“I will also counsel our president, who can get a little frisky with his smart phone, to adopt my approach. As the only candidate who met Donald Trump forty (40!) years ago, I am someone the president will pay serious attention to. Neither Sanborn nor Edwards will have the ear of the president. I will.

“Trump needs me on Capitol Hill.

“New Hampshire Republicans need to nominate someone who can win, not someone who has been telling them what they want to hear at party functions. Truth-telling and tough love is the only way forward to victory.

“I can win. I will serve New Hampshire citizens with honor and respect, qualities we have too little of today in Washington,” Martin states.

Manchester News conference Sunday: New Hampshire congressional candidate Andy Martin accuses Maura Sullivan of being illegally registered to vote in the Granite State and exposes the backstabbing and Obama-inspired dirty dealing behind Sullivan’s move to New Hampshire

New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin holds a Manchester news conference today, Sunday, to accuse Maura Sullivan of being illegally registered to vote in New Hampshire while she is also registered to vote in Illinois. Martin also exposes the backstabbing and Obama-inspired dirty dealing behind Sullivan’s move to New Hampshire that were the basis of the effort to force Carol Shea-Porter into involuntary “retirement.” Martin accuses Sullivan and her boy friend of a political scam.

Andy Martin accuses Maura Sullivan of being illegally registered to vote in New Hampshire, and produces a certificate from the Cook County Clerk to document his accusation.

Someone at WMUR has “hacked” Andy Martin’s answers to the station’s web site questions; Andy is asking the station to correct its error

(Manchester, NH)(September 9, 2018) — Republican congressional candidate Andy Martin holds a news conference today, Sunday, to “drop a bomb” on the congressional campaign of Maura Sullivan and possibly change the course of the 2018 primary election.

Martin, who has been called one of the GOP’s premier political operatives by Sam Stein of the Daily Beast, scoops all of New Hampshire’s media with an explosive voter registration scandal and an expose that explains how Obama-inspired operatives schemed to stab Carol Shea-Porter in the back and replace her with Obama protégé Maura Sullivan.

“While Andy Sanborn and Eddie Edwards have been throwing mud pies in their sandbox,” Martin says, “my Bureau of Investigation has been busy investigating Maura Sullivan. We can now confirm that Sullivan is illegally registered to vote in New Hampshire. We can also confirm some of the most sordid backstabbing in Democratic Party history facilitated Sullivan’s ‘move’ to New Hampshire.

“If you want to know who Democrats are terrified of winning the Republican congressional primary, it is me.

“A congressman has many jobs. One of the principal assignments is investigation and oversight of the executive branch. I have shown I can assemble the best team in GOP politics today. I have earned the GOP nomination in the First District the old-fashioned way, with hard work, deep digging and a sense of where to deploy investigative resources. I will do the same in congress. I will help root out the corruption and maladministration by holdovers from Obama’s FBI and Justice Department appointments.”

In a double-barreled attack on Sullivan, Martin documents and exposes why Sullivan has not previously been voting. Martin says Sullivan illegally registered to vote in New Hampshire. In fact, he says, Sullivan currently can’t legally vote for herself on Tuesday because of her active voter registration in Illinois.

1. Why Sullivan is registered illegally in New Hampshire

“Maura Sullivan did not vote in Washington, DC in 2016 because she is registered to vote in Evanston, Illinois,” Martin charges. “I have a certified copy of a certificate of her registration in Evanston, Illinois. She registered fraudulently in New Hampshire when she failed to disclose her active voter registration in Evanston. You can’t legally be registered in two places.

“Sullivan was fully aware she was registered in Evanston, which is why she did not vote in DC. She decided to chance registering in New Hampshire and has now been caught. She can’t legally vote for herself on Tuesday without violating New Hampshire law.

2. Obama’s backstabbing and dirty dealing brought Sullivan to New Hampshire

“Barack Obama may have moved out of the White House but his pernicious influence is growing within the Democratic Party.

“Obama sympathizers want to create a de facto ‘parliamentary’ system in the United States, where Obama and his cronies use their fundraising prowess to choose congressional candidates and then impose them on states.

“In Britain, for example, the ‘Conservative Central Office’ in London vets candidates before local constituencies get to choose a candidate. Control is retained in London, not local areas.

“Likewise, Obama and his supporters are now trying to create a corps of congressional loyalists by promoting candidates such as Sullivan. They choose them, they fund them and they drop them into congressional districts where they can overpower the local Democrats.

“The tactic has backfired in New Hampshire.

“In Sullivan’s case, the facts appear to be even more tragic. Democrats are desperate to retain the First District seat. The district leans Republican, but is a genuine ‘swing’ seat.

“Obama’s people took one look at Carol Shea-Porter and concluded ‘too old, too dowdy’ to survive the expected Republican counterattack. So they ‘elected’ to remove Shea-Porter and parachuted in Sullivan to deliver the blow if Shea-Porter resisted and refused to retire. Shea-Porter decided to go voluntarily with her dignity intact, so far.

“Shea-Porter’s lingering anger and frustration at what happened to her explains why this week, on the eve of the election, her former campaign manager Susan Mayer called Sullivan a liar and carpetbagger (please see link [1] below). The interesting question is why Mayer waited so long to expose Sullivan as a liar and fraud.

“Sullivan says she campaigned for Shea-Porter in 2006, and again in 2016. Mayer says she and Shea-Porter knew Sullivan’s 2006 claims were lies. Why did they wait until the last minute to expose Sullivan if they knew she was a liar? We can’t confirm yet if the same applies to the 2016 claims.

“It is obvious that some Democrats knew that Shea-Porter was forced out by the prior threat of a primary. She did not fortuitously decide to ‘retire.’ But who knew about the backstabbing scheme, and when did they know? We are still investigating.

“Obama’s plan to control congressional candidate selection from Washington terrified local New Hampshire Democrats. To a person they have all rejected Sullivan and endorsed Chris Pappas, with the exception of Shea-Porter who endorsed her chief of staff to replace her. That Sullivan received a unanimous cold shoulder should show you someone ‘knew’ something about the dirty dealing and backstabbing going on in Washington.

For months Democratic candidates kept quiet about “Sullivan’s Shenanigans.” Only Martin exposed Sullivan for what she is, an out of state carpetbagger and Obama stalking horse. Now, late in the day, Terence O’Rourke has started attacking too. He has posted a lengthy screed (please see link [2] below) accusing Sullivan of a premeditated move to Portsmouth.

“Sullivan says she came to New Hampshire to have her babies,” Martin asks. “Well, where are they? A year and a half later, her boy friend is still just a boy friend. It all looks like a scam and sham to me. She will be back living in Washington before Christmas if she loses the primary.”

3. Martin was the first to expose Sullivan as a fraud

Martin first attacked “Moneybags Maura” on June 11th (please see link [3] below). On June 30th Martin attacked Sullivan face-to-face at a candidates’ forum, while other D’s remained mute. On August 12th, Martin exposed Sullivan as a military fraud (please see link [4] below).

Interestingly, while other GOP candidates were focusing on each other during the primary, only Martin was directing his fire at Democrat Sullivan.

4. We believe there is more to investigate

“If Sullivan wins the primary for the Democrats on Tuesday we believe there will be more to investigate about her,” Martin continues. “We don’t want to compromise sources or methods, but our Bureau of Investigation is beavering away.”

5. WMUR flubs its own web site

WMUR solicited responses to questions from candidates, and posted them on its web site. Whose responses were fouled up? Only Martin’s. The station has been asked to expeditiously correct the matter. An apology or explanation would also be appreciated.

6. The bottom line

Andy Martin is the only GOP candidate who can win in November. It’s as simple as that. Voting for one of his opponents in the primary is voting to elect a Democrat.

If you have not yet seen the Union Leader/WMUR televised debate, here is a link:

We hope you’ll agree Martin is the only candidate who is in “sync” with First District voters.

GOP congressional candidate Andy Martin’s campaign surges across New Hampshire’s First District Saturday

GOP congressional candidate Andy Martin takes his surging campaign to a Strafford County Republican meeting, a Seacoast Women’s Chili Fest an the Hillsborough County annual dinner, with stops in Hampton and pending stops at St Mary’s Coptic Church in Nashua for the Egyptian Food Festival. “Thursday night Republican voters got to see me lined up with Edwards and Sanborn,” Martin says. “I sincerely believe Andy Sanborn still does not realize how wrong his behavior was over an extended period of years. Eddie Edwards is trying to campaign while concealing legal files that reflect on his racial profiteering at the expense of New Hampshire taxpayers. These are the ‘brightest and the best’ Republicans can put up to run against a Democrat? I am the only candidate with the national experience and national platform to defeat the Democrat. Sunday I will prove that when I give one of the Democrats a noogie she won’t soon forget. My biggest challenge and problem: dealing with the total incompetence of reporters such as Lauren Chooljian and Adam Sexton, who ask questions based on false facts and do not bother to study the record of my successes during this campaign.” If I get a fair shake, I go to Congress to ‘Make New Hampshire Proud.’”

Meet and Greet Andy Martin in Dover, Hampton, Kingston and Bedford as he capitalizes on his strong televised debate performance to surge across the First Congressional District on Saturday

Some media are “shocked” that Martin can perform on TV; Lauren Chooljian, a totally incompetent reporter for public radio, says Martin did a great job on Thursday and that surprised her (she surprises easily)

—–

Andy Martin traverses his congressional district with a simple message: I am the only candidate that can win in November

Sunday Martin will issue a “bombshell” report on Maura Sullivan, answering the question “Why didn’t Maura vote in 2016?”

(Manchester, NH)(September 8, 2018) — Republican congressional candidate Andy Martin will surge across the First District Saturday with a simple message: he is the only GOP candidate who can win in November.

Sunday Martin will drop a political “bomb” in the Democratic congressional primary.

Martin is well known nationally as one of the best conservative operatives in the Republican Party. After the implosion of John McCain’s presidential campaign in September, 2008 Martin rallied conservatives and independents to stave off a “blowout” by Barack Obama that would have devastated the Republican Party in congress. “How many votes did we cost Obama?” Martin asks. “Millions of votes. Obama has never forgiven me for making his life miserable over the past fourteen years. And I’m still making his life miserable, with more to come.

“In fact, at the WMUR debate Thursday night, you saw that the continuing fascination in the media with my anti-Obama work a decade ago. I was asked an erroneous question by Adam Sexton, who had not done his homework. What was Sexton obsessed with? My work opposing Barack Obama. https://www.wmur.com/article/granite-state-debate-martin-answers-question-about-birther-movement/23015892

In reality, I still battle Obama, and Obama still battles with me, as I will explain further on Sunday.

“Lauren Chooljian, a totally incompetent reporter — who had no idea how my campaign had impacted the congressional race and devastated my opponents — claimed she was surprised I performed well on Thursday. Chooljian was asked on NHPR, ‘Now before I let you go what would you say was the most surprising thing about this [televised] debate?’

Chooljian responded, ‘Well, so Andy Martin performed way better than I think most people expected…And it turns out Rick, he actually performed way beyond expectations. He gave clear answers…So I’m curious to see if he picks up votes because of this but, yeah, that was that was definitely surprise.(sic)’

“Memo to Ms. Chooljian: if you knew anything about me, and my radio and television experience, you would find it is far more extensive than yours, which has been at lowly-rated ‘public’ stations. The only ‘surprise’ is your total lack of professional competence to comment on a campaign where you are completely unfamiliar with the impact I had had on my opponents through the skillful use of the Right to Know law. Of course, your incompetence is symptomatic of what passes for ‘journalism’ in New Hampshire.

“With incompetent reporters delivering the news, who are surprised that someone such as myself who is a television professional ‘did well,’ is it any wonder that voters are disgusted with local media? I have been a radio and TV professional for decades, and it shows. My campaign manager and I literally have world class experience. We are dealing with a New Hampshire media environment that is lazy, ignorant and incompetent, all in all fourth rate.

“Despite my national credentials and record of strong performances I have also been treated badly by local party leaders whose vision doesn’t extend beyond their own bias. What is it they say about a ‘prophet is not without honor, …?’ I have delivered a world class primary campaign that changed the face of New Hampshire politics and my team is very proud of our effort.

“And, at the ‘end of the tunnel,’ here is the reality: I am the only candidate who can win in November. Even Ms. Chooljian now believes I can run a strong campaign.

“Ask yourself, is this district going to elect a sexual harasser who refuses to admit he was wrong, lies about his misconduct and admits he is too conservative for the district? The answer is obvious. Our district is too sophisticated to vote for such an ogre in November.

“Will the district support someone who used false claims of racial discrimination to loot New Hampshire taxpayers, and who refuses to authorize release of the secret legal complaints he filed against the state? No way. The legal claims will be exposed before the election, and anyone who is relying on secret files to conceal his weaknesses is a dead duck.

“No one is perfect, and I have controversies in my past. Who doesn’t? But my past is out in the open. There are no secrets or surprises to expect. And as I showed Adam Sexton Thursday night, if you lie about my record I will land on you like a ton of bricks. (Sexton interviewed my opponents, but never interviewed me before the debate, so he deserved what he got.)

“The New York Times investigated me a decade ago. They could find nothing even remotely current to attack me with. The Times had to go back twenty-five and thirty years to scrape up dirt. The Times had to go back decades for dirt because there is nothing in my recent past that can be attacked, unlike Edwards and Sanborn. The Times’ use of stale claims to attack me in 2008 boomeranged. I ended up gaining even more strength in the ‘War Against Obama’ which I was leading in 2008. And as Sexton and other media showed this week, my work exposing Obama still fascinates and obsesses the media. Deep down, they know I am a powerful, heavy hitter that could demolish the Democratic candidate in November.

“The media showed Thursday they are still obsessed with my credentials and experience, because I have been a player at the national level, not in the New Hampshire Senate or as ‘police chief’ in a town of 800 people.

“So consider all one. Between my two opponents who are clearly out of their depth and ‘dead on arrival,’ and my campaign which is infused with national energy and national experience, who has the best chance of winning the congressional seat back? Me or the others?” Martin says. “I don’t have to import people from Texas to endorse my candidacy.

“Who are the Democrats afraid of running against after watching the debate Thursday night? Me. They can topple Sanborn and Edwards with no trouble. They do not want to run against me.

“Ironically, because the Clown Man, ‘Joker’ Wayne McDonald, has tried to sabotage my candidacy, I can run as a ‘clean’ Republican free of any obligations to the incompetent party leaders that have currently delivered four congressional seats to the Democrats. I will represent the people of New Hampshire, not the party leaders.

“Republican Party primary voters can’t afford to nominate my opponents. The baggage they bring to the campaign is too heavy. I am the only candidate that can wage war against the D’s and win back the seat in November.”

Voters are welcome to visit Martin along the way Saturday (Strafford County Republican meeting, Seacoast Women chili Fest, Hillsborough County dinner). Martin will be happy to come out of the events to mingle with voters. The Hampton stop is still being finalized. Martin will try to stop at the Egyptian Food Festival in Nashua to show solidarity with embattled Coptic Christians in Egypt. Call for details. (Martin has contacted St. Mary and Archangel Church to see if he can visit there.)

“My promise has been to ‘Make new Hampshire Proud.’ I delivered Thursday night. I will deliver in November if voters give me the chance,’ Martin says.

New Hampshire congressional candidate Andy Martin exposes a “plague of Fake News” in New Hampshire from Liar Landrigan to Dissembler DiStaso

In his latest letter to New Hampshire citizens, congressional candidate Andy Martin explains how biased and incomplete news reporting is adversely affecting democracy both nationally and in local communities such as New Hampshire. Andy criticizes “Liar Landrigan” and “Dissembler DiStaso” for reporting “Fake News” that is distorting the electoral process. “President Trump is telling the truth when he says the media cannot be trusted,” Martin says.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

This letter is one of New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin’s continuing reports to the citizens of his district

Today Martin explains why Fake News is undermining New Hampshire’s democracy and why the “Fake News media” are writing their own obituaries by deliberately deceiving their viewers and readers.

(MANCHESTER, NH)(September 6, 2018)

Dear New Hampshire Citizen:

This is my fourteenth letter to you from the congressional campaign trial. Today I explain how local media are undermining your democracy and in the process destroying the backbone of a free press. And, today the Union leader furnishes the ultimate example of Fake News.

When President Trump first started attacking the “Fake News media” people thought he was exaggerating. He was not. Biased news and selective reporting are a growing cancer on the First Amendment.

In the colonial period and thereafter, 1750-1850, media were utterly biased, which is why Congress adopted the First Amendment to protect free speech by all. Almost anyone could start a newspaper then by scraping together the cash for a small printing press.

Today the costs of creating new media range from prohibitively expensive (a new newspaper) to impossible (government regulation and control of the airwaves). So we rely on the limited number of legacy media to present news reasonably fairly and accurately. They do not.

In New Hampshire we have a scandal because of the epidemic of Fake News by the Union Leader and WMUR. Today I will collect some of the recent Fake News and explain why it matters and why it undermines democracy. If, as is the case, the media won’t even report who is running, how can you know who is running? If actions by a candidate are also falsely credited or outright stolen by reporters, how can you gain an appreciation of whether a candidate is qualified or running an effective campaign? You can’t.

Let’s start with the ultimate in Fake News, a false story by the Union Leader today. In an earlier email I mentioned the debate being held this evening. I even predicted the Union Leader would attempt to deceive readers. How right I was! The debate is sponsored by WMUR, the Union Leader and the NHIOP at St Anselm’s. Kevin Landrigan, who may be the “dirtiest” journalist in New Hampshire, wrote a story about the debate (please see link [1] below) and didn’t even mention everyone who is participating. Landrigan falsely portrayed the debate as being between only two candidates. What are his readers going to think if they tune in and numerous candidates pop up? Lying about your own news event has to be the grandest example of Fake News I have ever seen. Hats off to Liar Landrigan.

During this primary campaign I have totally thrown over the tables of the media frauds and the toxic distortions of the local political class. Using my knowledge of the “Right to Know law,” usually called “freedom of information,’ and judicial procedure, I have negotiated the disclosure of thousands of pages of documents involving Andy Sanborn and Eddie Edwards and thrown their campaigns into disarray.

I was also the first to attack Maura Sullivan for falsely claiming in her advertising and speeches that she had “fought” in Iraq when she had been a supply officer. Maura — shall we call her the “Wonder Woman of the Marine Corps” — is an embarrassment to real warriors.

In sum and substance, I have waged a devastating primary campaign against my opponents but you would never know that because the Fake News media have suppressed virtually all mention of my efforts.

Let’s take a look:

1. Fake News by WMUR

A. The Andy Sanborn files

In June, I negotiated the release of what became over a thousand pages of documents concerning Andy Sanborn. Before me, others such as (I believe) Susan Olsen and Robert Clegg, had failed to obtain the release of the Sanborn documents (please see link #2] below, where Ethan Dewitt has done some excellent Sanborn analysis but also fails to mention my name). In fact, I believe (not 100% sure) that even John DiStaso had tried and failed to obtain the release of Sanborn materials.

I announced in an email I had negotiated an agreement with the Attorney General to release the Sanborn documents. What did DiStaso do? The moment he learned of my agreement he cut-and-pasted his own RTK request using my original. Then, when the materials were released in July, he claimed, falsely, that “WMUR had obtained” the documents without mentioning he was piggybacking on my successful negotiation.

All summer “Dissembler DiStaso” has continued to lie to viewers and readers by falsely claiming he secured release of the Sanborn files, when he had failed to do so.

Why is the fact that I obtained the release significant? For two reasons. First, when others try and fail to accomplish a task, the identity of the person who actually succeeds is obviously part of the story. Second, using my legal and political expertise, I was and am still running an effective campaign, though you would never know that from DiStaso’s false claims he is securing release of the Sanborn files. In other words, DiStaso is literally extinguishing my campaign and its effectiveness, to falsely portray himself as a successful document digger, when that is not the case.

B. The Eddie Edwards files

Once again, DiStaso is exposed as incompetent and lazy. The Edwards Settlement Agreement was negotiated in 2013. Edwards became a candidate in 2017. DiStaso, once again, did nothing about the Settlement until I announced I was seeking a copy in 2018.

Here is what DiStaso said: (please see link [2] below)
“WMUR received the settlement agreement from the attorney general’s office in July of this year, after filing a right-to-know request with the human rights commission.” In so far as I am aware, the Human Rights Commission was never involved. But, once again, DiStaso had done nothing for five (5) years. He didn’t take any action until I announced I was going after the Settlement Agreement and only then asked the Attorney General for a copy. Once again, DiStaso erased my instigation of the release, trying to falsely portray himself as having obtained the materials on his own. Once again, the effectiveness of my research and analysis in the campaign was not credited.

I could go on, but you get the picture. DiStaso seeks to claim credit for my work without a single mention of who obtained release of the materials he is using. His behavior is crass, inconsistent with journalistic ethics and designed to destroy my campaign by pretending I do not exist. Political bias? Personal bias? Who knows?

2. Fake News by the Union Leader

A. The Andy Sanborn files

When the original Sanborn files story broke, Liar Landrigan was away and the story was covered by another reporter who mentioned my name. By the time the final documents were released I had been erased and replaced by “many media,” all of whom piggybacked on my original agreement. The fact that I succeeded after others unsuccessfully tried to obtain the same material was left unmentioned (as it was in Ethan Dewitt’s report in the Concord Monitor).

Of course, if you were looking to your “local newspaper” to inform you what the candidates were doing, the reporters pretend there are only two candidates running. No wonder voters are confused and losing interest in voting.

B. The Eddie Edwards files

Remember that the Settlement with Edwards was signed five (5) years ago. No one reported on the document until I filed a Right to Know request and sought disclosure. What did Liar Landrigan write: “Edwards offered new details … following a Right to Know Law inquiry made by the New Hampshire Union Leader and other media outlets.” No mention that it was my RTK request that secured release of the Settlement. (I am going to court Friday to seek more disclosures about both Sanborn and Edwards.)

Reading the Union Leader you would think I did not exist all summer, when in reality my campaign activity was turning the campaigns of my opponents upside down and creating massive disruptions for them. Liar Landrigan takes his readers for dopes who will accept whatever drivel he pushes out as “news.” Thanks to the Internet, Landrigan has been exposed as a habitual liar, who no doubt lies at the direction of his employer Joe McQuaid.

The Union leader is an embarrassment to journalism, and I will have more to say about that after the primary. I ain’t finished by a long shot.

c. The Maura Sullivan fake “fighting a war” claims

Liar Landrigan did a front-page story on Maura Sullivan’s false claims she had “fought in Iraq.” Sullivan was using her ridiculous claim in both TV advertising and speeches. I was the first person to challenge Sullivan’s fraud, held a news conference and sent Sullivan a letter demanding she cease and desist. Landrigan credited the claims to another congressional candidate and did not mention my activity.

d. The Balsams cover-up

Several months ago the Union Leader reported state officials were ready to approve a $28 million “guarantee” for redevelopment of The Balsams report in the North Country. Last month, the application for a state handout was withdrawn. What happened? I battled the developers, and state officials ultimately had to agree that The Balsams paperwork was nothing but a taxpayer giveaway with no hope of repayment. “Andy Martin blocks $28 taxpayer giveaway?” Big news? No news. Not one word of my successful participation has ever appeared in the Union Leader.

Once again, how would you know I am succeeding as a candidate, if local media completely erase my efforts from their reporting? Once again, Fake News, intended to mislead readers as to who is doing what.

Of course, the ultimate humiliation for the Union leader comes today, when the newspaper is sponsoring a debate where I am appearing, and Landrigan fails to list the names of the participating candidates, trying to pretend the debate is only between two candidates excluding me. Fake News. What a disgrace to journalism.

By depriving you of information about who is running and what the candidates are accomplishing during the campaign, the media are lying to you and undermining our democracy, which is based on the theory of an informed electorate.

WMUR has interviewed numerous candidates in the Second Congressional District, and my opponents in the First, but excluded me. Fair or unbalanced? The blatant bias speaks for itself. (My exclusion was apparently the work of Adam Sexton, not DiStaso.)

My late Uncle William Vasiliou, who was a proud UNH graduate, used to say he was a “”facts and figures man.” I succeeded to his mantle. I deal in facts and figures (see links below), and that is why I succeed where others do not. But the future looks depressing for New Hampshire. How can our democracy function in darkness? One again, President Trump’s criticism of Fake News at the national level has its counterpart in our local communities. Is it any wonder Americans are disgusted?

Internet news anyone?

Respectfully,

Andy Martin

New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin questions whether one of his opponents, Eddie Edwards, has the professional credentials and temperament to serve in congress

Unlike the Union Leader or WMUR, New Hampshire congressional candidate Andy Martin analyzes the employment history of one of his opponents, Eddie Edwards, and finds significant questions, as well as a gap in the evidence necessary to understand why Edwards was paid $160,000 for “racial discrimination.” Martin is a highly respected analyst and investigator, which is what New Hampshire needs in Washington to represent the state. “Unless you want to make a fool of yourself, like our current federal legislators have done,” Martin says, “you need experience to manage congressional oversight of the executive branch. Edwards can’t do that. I have a history, even extending to this primary campaign, of doing what it takes to bring out the facts and work for transparency,” Martin says.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

This letter is one of New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin’s continuing reports to the citizens of his district

Martin explains why, based on Eddie Edwards’ checkered employment experience, no major company or enterprise would hire him. Martin says if Edwards is not good enough to be hired, why would anyone vote for him?

(MANCHESTER, NH)(September 6, 2018)

Dear New Hampshire Citizen:

This is my thirteenth letter to you from the congressional campaign trial. I hope you enjoy getting an unfiltered view of the primary campaign instead of the “fake news” broadcast and published by local media (a new story on media fake news coming later today, see below).

Today I would like to discuss with you whether Eddie Edwards is qualified to be a congressman. The Union Leader endorsed Edwards a week ago. I said nothing because newspaper endorsements are expressions of opinion, not fact, and editors are entitled to their opinions. But Wednesday the Union Leader published a second, desperation endorsement of Edwards (please see link [1] below). Obviously the UL is worried Edwards is not connecting with voters despite biased coverage in his favor.

The constitutional requirements to be a Representative in the U. S. House are minimal. Edwards meets them. Likewise, I am not personally hostile to Edwards. I present my analysis based on investigation of the facts, but I like Eddie. Politics being politics you sometimes have to pulverize people you like. And I have been just as tough, probably more so, on Andy Sanborn.

So is Edwards qualified? What are the facts? I present the evidence, with my analysis. You decide whether if Edwards were a job applicant, any major firm would hire him. Would you hire the man?

Edwards served several years as an enlisted man in the Navy. He received an honorable discharge. But literally millions of men and women have enlisted in the military. Being an enlisted person does not qualify you for high office (unless getting to see how stupid officers can be from a more humble point of view is a qualification). Honorable service? Absolutely. Qualification for a high legislative position in Washington, not at all.

Although Edwards has airbrushed the five years or so he spent as a correctional officer in Strafford County out of his resume, he apparently served honorably and properly. Honorable service again? Absolutely. Is working in a jail a qualification for high office? Very doubtful.

In 1995 Edwards was hired by the Liquor Commission. He must have done a good job because ten years later he was promoted to “chief.” Honorable service again? Absolutely. Qualification for high office? I don’t see how.

In 2005 Edwards was promoted to “Chief” of Liquor Enforcement. This is where his troubles begin. Four years after being promoted to a policy-making position Edwards filed two complaints in 2009 charging racial discrimination. He alleged, apparently from the time he became chief, he was the subject of racial discrimination. But the Attorney General has refused to release the complaint files, and I am going to court to get them.

How did Edwards change from being a fine employee, worthy of promotion to an executive position, to become the target of constant bigotry? I don’t believe it. Edwards had served capably in jobs where he was not a policy maker. Once he became an executive, there is a serious doubt he was able to manage complex relationships. There is a massive gap between being a police officer and being a chief, between being a low-level manager and being a senior executive with complex and occasionally conflicting responsibilities. Edwards apparently was never able to make the transition.

Edwards’ successor says he inherited a Liquor Commission that was “dysfunctional,” and characterized by “mistrust” and “self-interest” (please see link [2] below):

I have worked in the law enforcement and investigations field for 20 plus years—most recently as the Division Director of the New Hampshire Liquor Commission, Division of Enforcement. These experiences, and the successes I have realized with this work, furnish me with a high level of knowledge and practical expertise in policy establishment and enforcement applicable to small, medium, and large-sized organizations.

My background as Division Director contributes to and reinforces my capacity to back these claims. As the state’s chief of liquor enforcement and licensing I turned around a dysfunctional agency, known for its endemic mistrust and self-interest, to one of shared mission and individual empowerment. The enhanced internal culture led to a much-improved public perception and operative working approach.

Either Eddie Edwards and the Union Leader are right, and Edwards did a great job at the Commission, or Edwards’ leadership was a disaster as his successor states. Where are the investigations and analysis by WMUR and the Union Leader to determine which version is true?

Based on secret files which the state refuses to release, Edwards walked away with $160,000 for “racial discrimination.” If Eddie Edwards won’t authorize the release of his secret files you are crazy to vote for him. What is he hiding? What do you need to know that he doesn’t want you to know?

From the fiasco at the Liquor Commission we turn to more tranquil employment. Edwards was hired as “chief of police” for a town of 800 residents. There is no suggestion that Edwards did anything but serve competently, but how competently do you have to be to patrol a town of 800 people with five or six officers? A qualification for congress? Be serious.

Edwards then turned up on the staff of former Congressman Frank Guinta. Here we have another serious problem. While working as a congressional employee, subject to a strict code of ethics for congressional employees, Edwards continued to operate a lobbying business in Concord. He claims he did not violate congressional ethics. Guinta says he didn’t even know of Edwards’ secret employment. Edwards may or may not have violated the law; but he skated awful close to a violation of congressional ethics, if not actually crossing the line. How can a full-time, federal congressional employee also be operating a private lobbying business on the side? It may not “smell,” but there is a distinct odor.

My campaign manager is a retired analyst and investigator (that’s all I can say). Me? I can’t afford to retire. But it is obvious that I did my homework, which is what a congressman is supposed to do, on both Sanborn (over 1,000 pages of documents released to date) and Edwards (secured release of Settlement Agreement). The media obviously did not do their homework, and they continue to portray Edwards as a viable candidate when he would be easy pickings for the Democrats in November.

So we come to the bottom line: would you hire Edwards for a senior legislative/executive job based on his history of conflicts? No major enterprise would. Then why should you vote for him and hand the Democrats an easy seat in congress?

Now you can see why I accuse WMUR and the Union Leader of airing/publishing “fake news.” You simply can’t trust their coverage. My research is annotated with links to my sources. They don’t have any sources except the public relations handouts of the candidates themselves. As an aside, Edwards would be one of a dwindling number of congressmen without a college degree.

Finally, today is “debate” day on WMUR and in the Union Leader (which will no doubt censor the event). I encourage you to watch because that will be the complete and unedited program. Details on the debate are found below. Debates are healthy and are the ultimate form of modern democracy. Later today we hope to have a pre-debate story exposing more fake news on WMUR and in the Union Leader.

Based on the deficiencies of Edwards and Sanborn, I may not be your first choice to vote for. But I may be your only choice. I know how to fight the Democrats. My opponents do not. If you vote for them, they will be slaughtered in November.

Or you can believe the Union Leader, which says Edwards has an unblemished record of “character and service.” Fake news.

Respectfully,

Andy Martin

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

This letter is one of New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin’s continuing reports to the citizens of his district

Martin explains how his “Right to Know law” agreements with the Attorney General have devastated the campaign of his primary opponent Andy Sanborn

(MANCHESTER, NH)(August 28, 2018)

Dear New Hampshire Citizen:

This is my twelfth letter to you from the congressional campaign trial. Honestly, I didn’t think we would make political history in this campaign, but we have. After the way I have campaigned, and after what I have achieved, New Hampshire politics will never be the same. And we are still making history. We’re not finished. “There are miles to go,” as Robert Frost stated.

Ask yourself: what kind of a congressman would you like? Obviously, he would be a person responsive to the people of his district. Then you would want someone tough enough to survive in Washington, someone who isn’t a quitter. Finally, you would want a dogged investigator; because both Republicans and Democrats agree there is a lot to investigate in Washington.

I’d like to add two more qualities: you would want someone to be honest with you, someone you could be proud of. Most campaigns are focused on fear, fear of the “base,” fear of appearing to be less extreme than your opponent.

So how have I matched up with your expectations?

You wanted an investigator; you got one. I negotiated agreements with the Attorney General for the release of “Right to Know law” (“RTK”) information concerning two of my opponents, Andy Sanborn and Eddie Edwards. (More of Edwards in a subsequent letter.)

Today Sanborn’s campaign is smoldering. He should have taken my advice and stepped down in June. Monday night the Attorney General released yet another installment of RTK materials and they were disturbing to say the least. The by now infamous “boom boom room” at Sanborn’s saloon was confirmed by another witness, with even more weird information.

The witness testified that Sanborn apparently invited the intern who started the state house scandal to Sanborn’s saloon, after closing hours, to a basement room where Sanborn was cooking somewhere in the vicinity. I’ve never heard stuff like this. But the “Boom Boom Room” appears to be real. Sanborn is reported to have asked the intern leading questions, which suggests some sort of recording capability in the “room.”

The testimony about Sanborn’s boorishness and crassness is endless.

Can you believe – I am sure Sanborn doesn’t — that through my efforts we have secured the release of over 1,000 pages of testimony concerning the Sanborn scandal? Yes, over 1000 pages.

Now, either the people at the Attorney General’s office are all incompetent, and they wasted time and money assembling a record, or else there was something there to investigate. Let me explain a little bit more to you. When the TV lights are turned off, prosecutors are pretty conservative people. They do not like to bring weak criminal cases. And, no, Sanborn was not criminally charged. But in deciding whether to pursue a criminal case, the prosecutors assembled thousands of pages of testimony and evidence. I have only obtained a fraction of it, and I am still asking for more. Not being criminally charged is not the standard for electing a congressman.

So check off the first requirement for your congressman. You want a dogged investigator, you have one in me. My results speak for themselves, with more to come (big day tomorrow).

Knowing Sanborn was dead in the water if the truth came out, the Republican Party, from State Chairman “Joker” Wayne McDonald down to his munchkins at the local level, did everything they could to derail my campaign and defeat me. But my campaign gets stronger every day.

You don’t want a quitter? Well, you can see I don’t quit. The Attorney General did not want to release Sanborn’s papers until after the election. I persisted until we negotiated a deal for early release and it has made all the difference. I didn’t quit until I negotiated a good deal for the citizens of new Hampshire.

You want someone who will respond to the needs of your district, and take care of day-to-day business? I will be there for you every day of the year.

Finally, you want someone to be honest with you, someone who will make New Hampshire and you proud.

Politicians by nature are not brave men and women. Everyone talks about ending the partisan bickering, but no one wants to take the first step. You have to be very confident to take charge of the process.

I have made it a hallmark of my campaign – perhaps the only congressional candidate in the nation – promising to go to Washington and stop the backstabbing, the gridlock, the bickering, bad-mouthing and all the other abuses that have paralyzed the congress. I will make you proud because I have the guts and the persistence to pursue my goal.

Let me say one more thing about Andy Sanborn. What I find and found most astounding was that the most controversial incident of the Sanborn scandals, which span years of abuses, involved a gross comment made in front of his wife. Now I played Big Ten football, so I am no stranger to locker rooms. But almost everyone would be reluctant to make a gross remark involving his own wife in front of his wife. No one can decipher the secrets of a marriage. But Sanborn’s attitudes were becoming offensive fifty years ago. Yes, Sanborn is fifty years behind the times in his attitude towards women.

I wish we had the money to put the “Sanborn Papers” on the Internet. They are gross and crude, but they are also revealing about the candidate’s attitude in 2018. I do not hate Andy Sanborn, though I disagree with him. (And I am waiting for my “Mr. Rogers sweater,” because Sanborn keeps calling me a “moderate,” which I am not.) I feel sorry for Sanborn that he took the totally wrong approach to responding to his scandal. Nevertheless, it’s over for him. There is still a lot we do not know about the Sanborn Scandal, but we know enough, some would say too much about the tawdriness of our state legislature.

I met Donald Trump forty (40) years ago. We were neighbors. I think he wants to do a good job. Most of us want him to do a good job. Few people want to do a bad job. But Trump lacks the political experience to leverage his good intentions. I have the depth of experience to help the president accomplish much of his agenda.

The First Congressional District leans “Republican” but it is not a right-wing district. We are not right-wingers in New Hampshire. Yet both of my opponents have flooded the state with right-wing Republicans endorsing their candidacies. In other words, they want to appear extreme in the primary to attract voters, while eventually ensuring their defeat in November.

On the contrary, I know that if I lie to you in the primary, I will pay for it in November. I have chosen to tell you the truth: I’m conservative, but an independent conservative, not a lockstep one. I will take on the toxic partisanship in congress and make a dent, a big dent, in that institution. Rest assured. I am a New Hampshire conservative of the old school. We get things done.

I have more respect for your intelligence than my opponents do. I know you want to win. You want me to campaign on a positive platform, not just bow to a rote right-wing agenda. I will protect Medicare and Social Security. While pursuing a conservative approach, I will ensure that no American is left behind. Our “Safe Stations” approach to helping drug abusers in Manchester is an example. It is based on local firehouses, neighbors helping people. But “Safe Stations” actually helps jumpstart the process of recovery (please see links [1], [2] below]). Conservatism in the service of a humane approach to government.

Over the weekend I told you about a church in Manchester, founded in the depths of the depression by brave souls including my immigrant grandmother. Eighty-two years later the church is flourishing. I use modern equipment, such as computers, email and other conveniences. But my values are old-fashioned, New Hampshire values. I will make you proud to have me as your U. S. Representative. I would never let you down any more than I would let down my parents, grandparents and others.

There is hard work to be done in Washington; I have a strong back to get started.

Respectfully,

Andy Martin

Mount Washington Valley Economic Council is sued by GOP congressional candidate Andy Martin over debate discrimination

GOP congressional candidate Andy Martin filed suit Monday against the Mount Washington Valley Economic Council and various nonprofits/charities which support MWVEC, accusing the group of violating its tax-exempt, nonprofit neutrality by discriminating against Martin’s campaign and excluding him from a “Republican debate.” “MWVEC invited seven (7) Democrats but only two (2) Republicans to debate,” Martin says. “Why do they discriminate against Republicans and why do they discriminate against my campaign?”

(Manchester, NH)(August 27, 2018) — As promised, Republican congressional candidate Andy Martin filed suit today against Jac Cuddy, George Epstein, the Mount Washington Valley Economic Council (“MWVEC”) and other charitable entities that support MWVEC, for debate discrimination.

A copy of the lawsuit and docket number are attached to this news release.

“Mr. Epstein and Mr. Cuddy found space for seven (7) Democrats but only two (2) Republicans, sounds a little one-sided to me,” Martin said in announcing the court filing. “I offered Cuddy & Co. a chance to avoid a lawsuit but they insisted on being sued. They could listen to me at a debate or listen to me in court, and they chose the courtroom.

“Let me be clear: entities which are nonprofits under New Hampshire law, and non-profit charities, are supporting an organization, MWVEC, that picks winners and losers in partisan primaries. That’s a violation of state and federal law.

“Someone is going to get stuck with a big legal bill for Mr. Cuddy’s arrogance and contempt for fairness and due process in New Hampshire politics.

“I have participated in forums sponsored by tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations, but they were always careful to avoid a claim of bias by inviting all candidates to attend.

“MWVEC wants to have it “their way,” the dirty way; now the lawyers take over.

“This will prove very embarrassing for the charitable institutions, as well as TD Bank, that are associated with MWVEC. We will be adding more defendants. We just picked a few to start,” Martin says.

“The MWVEC is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization. They should not be picking winners and losers in primary elections. It could cost them their tax exemption.

“Major local and area companies contribute to the MWVEC. They are getting tax deductions for giving money to a tax-exempt organization. But, through the back door the organization is favoring Democrats and trying to lock my campaign out of the conversation.

“Ironically Democrats are also irritated by the contemptuous attitude of MWVEC, see e.g. http://nhlabornews.com/2018/08/guest-editorial-big-money-divides-candidates-in-1st-congressional-race/

“So I speak for Republicans, Democrats and independents when I call on MWVEC and its supports to stop the dirty politics. On this one, I am a nonpartisan advocate.

“Whatever happened to fairness and decency in New Hampshire politics? I have debated in major cities, and I’m not good enough for Conway? On what meat do these local Caesars feed? Cuddy & Co. disgrace the people of New Hampshire when they try to rig debates in favor of my primary opponents and favor the Democrats,” Martin charges. “Frankly, lawsuits are a lousy way to conduct an election, but my opponents leave me with no other option. I will not surrender to their bias and abuse.”

Because of IT problems, today Martin can only be reached on his cell phone (917) 664-9329.

First District congressional candidate Andy Martin explains to Republican and unaffiliated voters why so-called conservatives are panicking at his announced participation in the Granite State Debate

“My primary opponents rely on out-of-state ‘conservatives’ for their support,” Martin says. “Local Republicans by and large are not enthused by their candidacies. The advisers to both of my opponents have lied to their own supporters. Sanborn backers pretend that he only used foul language ‘on one occasion,’ when there is a diary documenting years of Sanborn’s inappropriate behavior.

“Likewise, Eddie Edwards’ replacement at the Liquor Commission stated he inherited a “dysfunctional” agency from Edwards, with poor agency morale (please see link [1] below). So, who’s right? Edwards or his successor? Edwards’ supporters pretend he was a great leader. The Liquor Commission says otherwise; he was barred from reemployment with the state. What does all of this mean? Please allow me to explain.”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

This letter is one of New Hampshire First District congressional candidate Andy Martin’s continuing reports to the citizens of his district

Martin exposes the hypocrisy of so-called conservatives that run rigged polls and muzzle free speech, all to nominate a sure loser for congress in the Republican Party

(MANCHESTER, NH)(August 27, 2018)

Dear New Hampshire Citizen:

1. In my last letter to you I explained how the supporters of
my opponents have done everything to derail my campaign. They have failed.

Last week I advised you that I would be part of the Granite State Debate sponsored by WMUR, the Union Leader and the NHIOP next month.

The primary has clearly expanded from a “two-man” race to a three-candidate race. (In a subsequent announcement I will explain why it is really a “one-man” election.)

So, who went after me the day after I was announced as a debate participant? The self-styled right-wing of the Republican Party, in the name of a blog called GraniteGrok. To the best of my knowledge the “Grok” had not mentioned my name in seven (7) years. So why, the day after I was invited to participate in the Granite State Debate, did a Grok writer suddenly develop an interest in my campaign? Obviously, something had agitated the self-proclaimed right-wing Groksters.

2. Skip Murphy, one of the founders of Grok, attacked my “experience” and ridiculed my disclosure of New Hampshire State official records which disclosed an intern had been taken to a basement room in Andy Sanborn’s saloon for a bizarre meeting. Murphy says he doesn’t like “my language.”

You can attack me on many levels. No candidate is perfect and in a lifetime of public service I have made my share of mistakes and attracted my share of detractors. But I don’t believe anyone can seriously argue that I am not the most experienced candidate in either the Republican or the Democratic primary.

I have broad international and foreign policy experience. I have been in and out of Washington and I know how to take command the day I take the oath. So, yes, while you are obviously free to vote for one of my opponents, most people would agree that if you want to send “experience” to Washington, I am the most experienced candidate to help the congress move ahead.

3. So what is really bothering the Groksters? In a nutshell: The First District is not a “Ted Cruz” district. That’s why the Grok feels threatened by my candidacy and campaign. I am actually talking common sense to Republicans and independents in the First Congressional District, not Republicans in Texas or Montana.

They are frightened by the fact I want to win the November election, not just endlessly debate “conservative” issues.

Neither of my two fellow debaters is remotely electable in the First District. Right-wingers love my opponents because they try to outdo each other pandering to conservative voters (the Grok-related “603 Alliance,” which I support, conducted a two-man “poll” and, surprise, one of the two “won,” but my name wasn’t even offered as an option). Unfortunately for my primary opponents, the views they are espousing in the primary will come back to haunt them, and defeat them, in the general election.

It is often said that the First District is a “Republican” District. That’s not really accurate. The district does lean Republican in registration, but the district’s Republican voters are New Hampshire conservatives, not Ted Cruz conservatives. The district “leans” Republican but it will not elect a right-winger. So, when my primary opponents try to “out-conservative” each other, they are declaring that they are incapable of defeating a Democrat in November.

About a month ago, long before I was included in the debate, WMUR asked me for some candidate background (please see link # 2 below). If you look at the “Why are you running for congress section” you will see I am profoundly concerned by the need for someone to stand up during a party primary and promise to begin the difficult task of ending the partisan deadlock and endless bickering in Washington. I am big enough and strong enough and experienced enough to do just that if you send me to Washington.

I really do want to “Make America Great Again” and the only way we can do that is to work with people we disagree with, and work to harness the collective energy of people whose views are across the political spectrum. I am the only candidate in either primary campaigning on a promise to promote reconciliation and a willingness to work with the other party, not just offering lip service to “bipartisanship.” In New Hampshire I have a winning message. My opponents had a bad week again (please see links [3] and [4]); judge for yourself. That’s why I claim we now have a three-man race, and you have a real choice, a New Hampshire conservative choice, for congress.

4. No sooner had I made those remarks than Andy Sanborn pounced and said I was a “moderate.” My response was, “I’m not a moderate on the issues; but, yes, I am all in favor of moderation when it comes to trying to work together with the Democrats.” All of my life I have been a bridge between people holding conflicting viewpoints. People have respected me because my own views are honorably held, but I have always been prepared to appear before groups with whom I disagree and listen to conflicting ideas.

Guess what? I am a conservative. An old-fashioned, New England, New Hampshire conservative of the type that used to dominate New Hampshire politics. Today, when faced with a choice between a cartoon version of Texas conservatism, and a cartoon version of New Hampshire leftism, voters have clearly allowed Democrats to dominate our state in the last two decades.

I actually stand a chance of winning, going to Washington and serving honorably as I represent your interests and the interests of every Granite Stater, and not just follow the ideas of conservative think tanks that are divorced from reality.

In closing, let me say a good word about my detractors. I do read the GraniteGrok; I also peruse CNN and MSNBC. You should too. I want to read contrasting viewpoints. I find a lot to like in the Grok; I get leads and ideas from their columns. They are not bad people. But in my opinion, they would rather be “right” than win an election. (Two years ago, the Grok promoted a “fake candidate” in the Second District; he was exposed as totally unqualified.)

When I take to the debate stage next month, I am debating to win, not debating to debate. For Republican primary voters, the case comes down to one issue: do you want to win with honor in November, or would you prefer to nominate a conservative and endure endless debates about who is the “most conservative” candidate running?

I fully expect that one of these days Andy Sanborn will pull out a “Mr. Rogers” sweater and present it to me. I’ll be proud to accept.

I hope you will pay serious attention to the debate. I will make New Hampshire proud and make you proud. I can and will serve with honor in the congress.

Respectfully,

Andy Martin
